A recent meeting between Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of Poland’s Law and Justice (PiS) party, and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki concluded without resolving the ongoing divisions within the party. Despite efforts to mend the rift, the main opposition party remains embroiled in internal conflicts. The discussions failed to produce a significant breakthrough, underscoring the persistent challenges facing PiS as it seeks to present a united front.
Following the meeting, Piotr Müller, a Member of the European Parliament from PiS, revealed that his group proposed 21 compromise measures aimed at resolving the party’s internal strife and fostering unity. Müller emphasized that the proposals were crafted to demonstrate goodwill, loyalty, and a dedication to bolstering the centre-right political alliance. The intention behind these measures is to rebuild trust and ensure cohesion within the party, which has been struggling with internal disagreements.
Müller also defended the establishment of the Rozwój Plus association, which he argued was designed to broaden support for the centre-right and attract a wider voter base. He addressed concerns about the organization’s funding by noting that legal analyses have been conducted to ensure compliance with financial regulations. The association is seen as a strategic move to enhance PiS’s appeal to potential new supporters, amidst the backdrop of internal party challenges.
While expressing a readiness to negotiate and find common ground, Müller dismissed the notion of signing loyalty pledges or making declarations that could be perceived as demeaning. He stressed the importance of PiS maintaining its identity as a broad political movement, one focused on policy-making and electoral victories rather than being bogged down by internal disputes. Müller’s comments highlight the delicate balance the party seeks to achieve between resolving internal conflicts and maintaining its public image as a cohesive political force.
