This victory marks Hurkacz’s first ATP Tour final appearance of the 2026 season. He will face Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who advanced to the final by defeating Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the other semifinal match.
The Chengdu Open final will be the 13th ATP Tour final of Hurkacz’s career. It is particularly significant as it is his first since May 2025, following a lengthy injury layoff that impacted his current season and world ranking. The former world No. 9 is aiming for his first title since making a comeback from injury earlier this year.
As Hurkacz prepares to face Davidovich Fokina, he trails 2-4 in their head-to-head encounters. The final presents an opportunity for Hurkacz to not only claim a title but also to strengthen his comeback narrative this season.
