Amid ongoing tensions between the Polish government and the presidency, Prime Minister Donald Tusk is making another attempt to push through legislation aimed at regulating the nation’s crypto-assets market. Tusk plans to request that Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty bring the matter back to the lawmakers for a fresh vote, following multiple vetoes by President Karol Nawrocki.
President Nawrocki has already rejected the proposed crypto-assets regulations on three separate occasions—in December 2025, February 2026, and most recently in June. He contends that the current version of the legislation still falls short of addressing key concerns raised by his office throughout the drafting process. Nawrocki has criticized the government’s focus on cryptocurrency issues, suggesting that it detracts from resolving other flaws in the legislation. He has expressed willingness to sign the bill should these deficiencies be adequately addressed.
The disagreement has escalated, with Tusk drawing connections between the cryptocurrency debate and alleged ties between political and media figures associated with the former ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party. According to Tusk, the situation appears to involve a coordinated network, with claims that financial transactions have occurred between crypto businesses, media entities linked to PiS, and high-ranking politicians.
Focusing on the cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, Tusk described the unfolding situation as increasingly troubling. While asserting that the government would refrain from interfering in ongoing police or prosecutorial probes, he emphasized the need for the parliament to reconsider Nawrocki’s veto.
This latest move by Tusk sets the stage for another showdown between the government and the presidency over the contentious crypto-assets regulations. As Nawrocki holds firm in his stance, he insists that the legislation must first be amended to address the identified shortcomings before he considers endorsing it.
