As Poland seeks to bolster its strategic alliances and economic ties, President Karol Nawrocki has proposed significant expansions in cooperation with the United States. Speaking at the Polish-American Economic Summit in New York, Nawrocki outlined ambitious plans that could reshape Poland’s role within Central and Eastern Europe, focusing notably on energy and defense sectors.
Nawrocki suggested that Poland could become a pivotal regional service hub for American military equipment. He envisions not just an increase in the purchase of U.S. defense technology but a deeper involvement of Polish firms in its production and maintenance. Key to this plan is the establishment of a European service center for the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missile system, leveraging Poland’s existing industrial capabilities and domestic expertise.
The president also emphasized Poland’s potential as a major energy hub, particularly through the use of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG). By enhancing its LNG imports, Poland aims to extend its supply network into neighboring countries, including Ukraine. Nawrocki highlighted ongoing projects like Poland’s first nuclear power plant, which underscore the country’s commitment to becoming a regional energy leader.
Beyond defense and energy, Nawrocki identified opportunities for increased collaboration in other sectors, such as automotive and pharmaceuticals. He noted that the Port of Gdańsk could play a strategic role in facilitating the entry of American goods into Central Europe, thereby supporting future reconstruction efforts in Ukraine.
