Luxembourg Pledges Continued EU Support for Ukraine Amid Russian Threats

Must Read

Amid ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, Luxembourg has reinforced its commitment to supporting Ukraine in the European Union’s efforts against Russian aggression. Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden articulated this stance following an EU summit, emphasizing that abandoning Ukraine or conceding to Russian pressure would enable Moscow to pursue wider territorial ambitions. Frieden underscored the importance of continuing military and financial support to uphold Ukraine’s sovereignty and deter further Russian expansion.

In addition to discussing support for Ukraine, EU leaders at the summit deliberated on imposing stricter controls on tourist visas for Russian citizens. The aim is to limit the influx of Russian tourists without enacting a complete ban. Frieden noted that Luxembourg will align its strategy on this issue with that of Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel.

The summit also touched upon the contentious topic of migration policy, although no consensus was reached. Prime Minister Frieden advocated for a balanced European approach that addresses irregular migration while acknowledging the economic benefits of legal migration. He highlighted Luxembourg’s dependence on foreign workers to fulfill labor market demands.
