India is actively seeking to elevate its role in facilitating the resolution of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, as stated by External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. With an emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy, India is increasing its engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv, aiming to contribute to peace efforts.
Jaishankar highlighted that India has moved beyond merely advocating for negotiations and is now directly involved in discussions with the involved parties. Efforts are also underway to explore support for initiatives such as ensuring the safety of shipping in the Black Sea, securing grain and energy exports, and establishing arrangements to prevent further conflicts.
In line with these efforts, Jaishankar has engaged in direct talks with Ukraine, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintains a close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders had a meeting in New Delhi in September, underscoring the strategic ties between the two nations.
These developments arise amidst ongoing attempts to restart negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv has expressed interest in holding another round of talks, signaling a continued pursuit of diplomatic solutions.
