Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to the United States for restoring the Starlink and Starshield satellite internet services, which are vital for Ukraine’s frontline logistics and defense against Russian drone attacks. In a video address, Zelensky also renewed his call for the delivery of promised air defense missiles, emphasizing the urgent need for ammunition for Patriot systems to protect Ukrainian cities and infrastructure from ongoing Russian ballistic missile threats.
Zelensky highlighted the importance of the restored satellite internet services, noting that returning to previous operating speeds is crucial for Ukraine’s military operations. He thanked US lawmakers, officials, media representatives, and the administration for their roles in resolving the issue, underscoring the impact of such support on Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Additionally, Zelensky addressed the situation in Oleshky, a town in the Russian-controlled Kherson region of Ukraine. He expressed hope for a humanitarian operation to deliver food and medical supplies to civilians and facilitate safe passage out of the conflict zone. This initiative, which hinges on US-mediated efforts to establish a local ceasefire, is facing challenges due to mined roads in the area.
The proposed humanitarian operation involves creating a safe corridor through mine-clearing efforts. Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to cooperate with these efforts and expressed optimism that US mediation would make the mission feasible. The goal is to alleviate the difficult conditions faced by civilians in the region.
Despite the political commitments from the United States and European partners, Ukraine is still awaiting the delivery of military shipments. Zelensky’s address serves as a reminder of the ongoing support needed to bolster Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression and ensure the safety of its citizens.
