From May to July: Trump’s Megabill Faces Accelerated Senate Schedule

Must Read

President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” narrowly passed by the House in May, is now facing an accelerated schedule in the Senate, with Congressional Republicans hoping to have it on the President’s desk by July 4th. This tight timeline adds pressure to the already contentious legislative process.

The bill, which includes tax cuts, increased border and military spending, and reductions in Medicaid, is moving through the reconciliation process, allowing for a simple majority vote. However, the narrow Republican majority means that despite the expedited timeline, internal opposition could still force delays or significant modifications.

Senators Ron Johnson and Rand Paul are leading the charge for fiscal responsibility, vocally criticizing the bill’s projected $3.8 trillion increase in the deficit over ten years. Their demands for substantial changes, including potentially splitting the bill, could complicate the rapid timeline.

The controversial Medicaid cuts are also drawing intense scrutiny. Additionally, the Byrd Rule could strip out non-budgetary provisions related to AI regulations, judicial power, or gun control, requiring the bill to return to the House for final approval, which could jeopardize the ambitious July 4th deadline.
